Karambit by Arcturus
The KARAMBIT AT-AR09 is the latest addition to the Phantom family and we asked ourselves, what is left for this series to offer? And it all becomes clear just by readin its name: KARAMBIT, it is the perfect model for CQB. Does the name come from the knife? We do not know, but we like to think that the name is for the knife, something lethal for melee distances.
Why does it stand out?
This model was designed with CQB in mind, with a length of just 51 cm, 64 if you extend the stock, so it is as easy to carry as an MP7 or an MP5. Its 2.4 kg also make it lighter than the average M4, which normally exceed 3 kg. And all this despite the fact that it is a metallic replica gun, and of good quality, just to make the point: the receiver is made of CNC aluminium. The weight is very well distributed, making it possible to shoulder it with only one hand if you need to jump over an obstacle, make a transition or any other normal CQB action.
One of the details that we liked is that the replica already comes with its DMAG magazine with variable capacity between Mid Cap (70 BBs) or Real Cap (20 BBs). Among other details, the integrated muzzle in the handguard itself stands out. It reminds us of Linear Muzzle Brake by AR-Stoner, but since it is "buried" in the handguard it goes completely unnoticed. To all this it adds a straight trigger to improve the rate of fire, something quite necessary in CQB fields.
The kerambit (also know as kerambit, korambit or shrimp tail) is quite a popular knife thanks to movies, of Filipino and Malaysian origin. It is quite characteristic in tactical environments.
Stock
The stock is minimalist in design, although it is comfortable to shoulder and can be adjusted to the length of our arm. The space for the battery pack is also reduced, although there is enough space to place a battery like the “Li-Po 1100MAH of 11.1V y 20C by IPOWER”. It also has QD hooks for the strap on both the right side and the left side.
Handguard
The handguard leaves the sides and the lower part free using the M-LOK anchoring system and offers a continuous RIS in the upper part to be able to attach accessories. Although due to the short length of the handguard, we will have to choose these accessories very well. The replica includes a handstop which provides great manoeuvrability once you start playing, which allows you to gain a lot of speed when changing targets and which can be placed either way.
Internal parts
I has a new gearbox reinforced with new internal parts. This gearbox has a quick spring change, a spring guide with bearings, piston head with bearings, piston with full metal teeth and 8 mm bearings.
As if this weren’t enough, the replica comes with an electronic trigger, with low resistance wiring and a 6.03 mm precision barrel.
Conclusions
With the AT-AR09 Arcturus has managed to fulfil one of the few remaining tasks that remained to the Phantom series: make a perfect CQB model. With a telescopic stock and a short, narrow handguard that is perfect for fields where mobility and maneuverability are key to the mission’s success.
