DRESS UP TO KILL OSAMA
On 2 May 2011, in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad, the raid to take down Osama Bin Laden, leader of the terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda, was launched.
This operation planned by the CIA was carried out by the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, known as SEAL Team Six DEVGRU, transported and supported by the 160th Special Operation Aviation Regiment (160th SOAR) better known as “Night Stalkers”.
The code name of this operation was “Neptune Spear”, in reference to the trident of Neptune, Roman God of waters and seas who is always represented by his trident.
This trident is part of the SEAL badge, with each point of the trident representing the operational capacity of the SEAL Teams on land, in the sea and air. The objective of this mission was to systematically take down and confirm Osama Bin Laden in situ, whose code name was “Geronimo” and who was known in the SEAL environment by the pseudonym “Bert”, the Muppet character on Sesame Street. His second in command, Al Zawahiri, was referred to as Ernie until then.
