YAMAM: the shadow that falls before the shot
The YAMAM (Yechidat Mishtartit Meyuchedet) is Israel’s most important counter-terrorism unit and one of the most respected on the planet. Created in 1974 after the Ma’alot massacre, its mission was clear: a police unit, not a military one, capable of responding within minutes to attacks, kidnappings, and complex incidents inside Israeli territory. Since then, its reputation has only grown.
Unlike other special forces, YAMAM is designed to act before an attack occurs. Its operators combine operational intelligence, infiltration, snipers, assaults in densely populated areas, and breaching techniques that many armies cannot replicate. For Israel, YAMAM is the first and last line of urban defense.

Real facts
1) Response in minutes: the Israeli model

YAMAM has teams distributed strategically to reach almost any point in the country in under 20 minutes. This deployment model allows them to neutralize ongoing attacks, stop terrorists before they act, or rescue hostages in the middle of the street. For Israel, speed is the tactic.
2) Legendary snipers and precision assaults
Its marksmen are considered among the best in the world. But they do not work alone: every shot, every breach, and every movement is coordinated with intelligence units in real time. YAMAM does not improvise — it executes. Surgical operations, bus rescues, night assaults… always with a blend of stealth and controlled aggression.
3) A tactical laboratory recognized worldwide

Teams from the U.S., Europe, and Asia have traveled to Israel to train with them. Their experience in densely populated zones, urban terrorism, and simultaneous attacks has turned YAMAM into a global benchmark. The unit also conducts undercover missions, high-level arrests, and joint operations with Shin Bet and the Border Police.
They don’t give speeches, nor do they look for cameras.
If you see YAMAM, you’re already late.
They were always there first.
