ASG B&T USW A1

B&T (Brügger & Thomet) is a Swiss firearms manufacturer well known for developing weapons for different police units around the world, especially those with high-level or counter-terrorism response capabilities. In the airsoft field, ASG holds the B&T licenses for replica production, and in the case of the USW-A1 model, it is manufactured in Taiwan by KJWorks, who not only produce it but are also the ones who send us this model.
The USW-A1 was developed to provide rapid-response police forces with a weapon offering greater stability than a pistol, while maintaining the same strong points—namely, the compact size of a sidearm.

An interesting fact about the real USW-A1 is that it is rumored one of B&T’s key selling points to public agencies is that it is a weapon designed for regular police officers without special training or frequent practice—something more common in Europe than in the United States. It offers a first-response weapon with much greater shooting stability thanks to its stock and compact dimensions. In short, a weapon designed to make it easier for even less-trained officers to neutralize a threat: if you can’t improve the man, improve his equipment.

Slide

Its lines reflect an original Swiss design in which even the smallest details have been carefully thought out. The most notable feature is the extended slide with two small protrusions on the upper front area, just ahead of the ejection port. These help make racking the slide more instinctive and prevent the hand from slipping during the action. This feature is reinforced by the textured patterns on both sides of the slide. This design is necessary because the slide must be racked from the front, as the rear houses the stock assembly with the RIS base.

Sighting system

The replica features a front sight integrated into the slide, aligned with the RIS rail that acts as a rear sight (part of the RIS material has been removed to create the rear sight). In reality, the real model is designed to mount a red dot on the upper RIS to enhance instinctive shooting.

Upper RIS
The RIS platform is anchored to the body itself, which is very important because it does not add extra weight to the slide. This allows the use of larger sighting systems—not just pistol-sized optics like a Trijicon RMR, but also larger red dots that improve sight picture and shooting. All of this is achieved without adding weight to the slide and therefore to the firing cycle. The heavier the slide, the more powerful gas would be required to move the assembly; this system therefore expands the range of usable gases or CO₂.

Stock
It offers two positions: folded, for pistol-style use, or extended using the button located on the outer side, turning the replica into an SMG-style platform with greater shooting stability.
It also allows the use of lower-quality RMRs. As you know, strong blowbacks can end up breaking some RMRs due to slide movement; in this case, you don’t need to worry. You can invest in the pistol and save money on the RMR.

WARNING: One issue with this type of design is how to grip the pistol. Remember that despite having a stock, your hands must be positioned the same way as when holding a pistol. Many players who have never used this type of replica move their support hand forward to the front RIS area. Imagine if this is incorrect in airsoft, how many problems the real model could cause for someone not used to proper hand placement…

• B&T markings
• Outer barrel with 14 mm CCW thread allowing suppressors or tracers
• 20 mm lower RIS for flashlights
• Rubberized, non-slip grip area
• Metal slide, part of the body, and outer barrel (same as the real model)
• Firing mode: semi-automatic
• FPS: 300 (with 0.20 g BBs and CO₂) and 290 FPS (with 0.20 g BBs and gas)
• Length: 255 mm / 470 mm (folded / extended)

Magazine
The box includes a CO₂ magazine with a capacity of 26 BBs, but it also works with other gas magazines available for this model and is compatible with magazines from CZ Shadow 1 and 2, SP-01, and CZ 75 pistols. And the big news: 50-round extended magazines will be available. Very nice!

Internals
It features a 6.04 mm inner barrel with the same hop-up chamber used in models such as the Shadow 2. As with most pistols, you must remove the side pin to disassemble the slide and access the hop-up adjustment. In this case, as in the Shadow model, it uses a flat-head screw located on the underside. This system allows for finer BB flight adjustment but requires a screwdriver for easier tuning.
The recoil spring guide is made of plastic with a silicone buffer to improve the firing cycle. It is anchored to the hop-up chamber itself, providing greater stability to the guide.

Conclusion
Who do we recommend this replica to? Honestly, to those who play frequently in CQB environments or are simply looking for a different kind of replica. Whatever your reason for choosing this USW-A1 by KJWorks—which for us is synonymous with quality and reliable performance—we really can’t make a better argument.
