Camouflage for CQB or Night Games?
![]()
For years, players have repeated the idea that black is the best color for night games. It sounds logical in theory, but reality tells a different story. In nature, true black is rarely found, and a completely black uniform often creates a well-defined silhouette under moonlight or ambient lighting, making the wearer easier to spot.

That's why, despite its association with nighttime operations, MultiCam Black was never specifically designed as a night camouflage pattern. Crye Precision developed it primarily for law enforcement and urban environments, where its mix of dark greys and black breaks up the human silhouette more effectively than a solid black uniform.
In woodland or natural terrain, patterns such as MultiCam, Flecktarn, M81 Woodland, or even Ranger Green generally blend into the environment far better during night games. In CQB and urban environments, however, camouflage patterns make far less difference. Players are usually detected first because of movement, noise, or flashlight use rather than the pattern they're wearing.

MultiCam Black is not the best camouflage for nighttime—but it was never intended to be. Its popularity comes from its striking tactical appearance and the fact that it performs particularly well in urban settings, where it remains one of the most recognizable and widely used camouflage patterns among both professionals and airsoft players.
