AN EYE UNDER THE GUN

I.C.U camera (Integrated Camcorder Unit)

It has surely crossed many people’s minds to attach a camera in the replica to capture those glorious shots or that offensive which was going to be more epic than William Wallace's in Braveheart. But of course, most devices in the market are a monstrosity once mounted on our replica. Yeah, well, they can be small too, but when mounted on a replica they look like an anti-aircraft gun (and they can cost more than € 400).

Well, your quest is over! For less than a tenth of such price, our friends from PLANBETA found the solution: integrating a mini-camera in the laser's structure to incorporate it... even on a hand-gun! Yes, you read that right: on a hand-gun, since it is an extremely compact and lightweight unit, as demonstrated by its 58 mm and 27 grams in weight.

The external appearance is just that of a laser (including the button), which can be held by means of an elastic band on any gun grip or on a larger hand guard (so, just like a real laser!).

The camera's body (made of plastic) is like that of any laser, except that it carries:
-    A small switch to go from video mode to photo mode
-    Two LEDs (green and red) for the camera to communicate with us (on, recording, if there is a problem ...)
-    A micro USB port
-    And a slot to insert a micro SD card up to 32 GB.

The fastening system is the classic flange to the 20 mm picatinny rail, with two Phillips head screws. Some rails may be a bigger width, nothing that can't be fixed with a piece of rubber between the flange and the rail.

It is so light that you won't even notice it, as it is like any laser or flashlight. And, being extremely compact, it does not interfere as a larger camera would with the corresponding support when quickly aiming or holstering it.

OPERATION

Photo mode:
1.    Hold down the button for more than 1 second: turns on the camera.
2.    Short click (click and release): photo.
3.    Holding down for more than 1 second: turns off the camera.

Video mode:
1.    Holding down for more than 1 second: turns on the camera.
2.    Short click (click and release): starts recording.
3.    One more click (click and release): stops recording.
4.    Holding down for more than 1 second: it turns off.

It has a StandBy mode which, after a while, turns off the camera so that we do not run out of battery in the midst of battle. It is charged via a standard micro USB connector, where there is a brief but detailed explanation on how to use this beauty.

Characteristics:

-    Weight: 27 grams
-    Length: 58 mm
-    SD card up to 32 GB
-    Video: 4:3 format at 1280 x 960 (do not expect the quality of a GoPro, although is perfect to record all the action)
-    Photo: 3 Megapixels
-    Every minute of video is about 45 Mb, around 12 hours of video on a 32GB card, or around 4500-4600 photos.

Just like a handgun is the perfect secondary weapon to go with an AEG, we can say that this camera mounted on our hand-gun will give us a unique perspective with which to combine the recordings of our games without anyone even noticing what we are packing.
