Just as M4s have evolved considerably since their launch, the AK family of current special forces operators is way more modern than the original steel and wood weapons. And this change is something that CYMA has perfectly captured in these models. Lighter, more configurable stocks, modern handguards, RIS for accessories ... Although there are classic fans, it is undeniable that evolution is unstoppable and is now available in airsoft!

CM.076-A

STOCK //

This model is shorter than the previous one, it reminds us of the AKS74U. While the handguard is different, the aiming elements are unmistakable. The tube stock with six positions and CTR type can be folded inwards in the style of the real manufacturer, FAB Defense, which considerably reduces the length of the model and makes it perfect for transporting and playing in small spaces such as CQB.

MUZZLE //

The muzzle is yet another of the features that draws attention in these models. With a design similar to the LANTAC Dragon, which in the real model serves to reduce recoil and rise of the barrel (especially when shooting in full auto) and reduce the flare of the gases. But which is obviously merely something aesthetic in this replica, which will serve to break the routine and make our AK stand out from others.

SELECTOR //

The selector is resized and has a protruding tab to allow us operate it with forefinger that we use for triggering as well, and much more comfortably. This is something that can be seen in the real models of many operators but was difficult to find in airsoft replica guns. This design is similar to the Mk VI by Krebs Custom Guns and offers much more sensitivity and precision when changing the firing mode.

HANDGUARD //

It has an RIS handguard at the top and Keymod at the sides and at the bottom. This enables a much more comfortable grip (tactical carbine style) and a lighter weight with the possibility of attaching accessories both directly if you have a Keymod coupling or on an RIS rail with Keymod coupling to be able to use the ones that we all have at home.

CM.076-B

BODY //

The body reminds us of the AKM, the substitute for the AK47, although there are some differences. For instance, the absence of front sight, or the design of the rear sight that reminds us of the AKS74U. We actually like that this piece acts as a hinge when lifting the RIS’s lid, which is also very useful to add any type of optics without resorting to the side platform that increases the weight and volume of the model.

HANDGUARD //

It has an RIS type handguard at the top, Keymod at the bottom and two RIS platforms on the sides that are screwed in, so you can use them to attach accessories or remove them to reduce the thickness and weight of the handguard. If you like to wear straps of more than one point it is advisable to check if the front hitch bites down properly, since the RIS somehow hampers the access to the front ring.

PISTOL GRIP  //

Another AK element which has evolved is the pistol grip. It reminds us of the US Palm Enhanced Pistol Grip; wider and more ergonomic (you will notice how the curve in the back fits the palm of your hand better). Very much like the HK416.

MAGAZINE //

Like the pistol grip, the magazine reminds us of the US Palm AK30. Made of polymer, it is not only lighter but makes less noise than metal-made models if it clashes with another magazine inside the pouch. With a capacity of 450 BBs, hi-cap, it has a wheel-feeding system in the lower part. The operation is conventional, but the outer flute design enables a better grip, facilitating quick reloads. Although the brand has confirmed that it also has the same model with a mid-cap option.

INTERNAL PARTS

GEARBOX //

It has a version 3 gearbox, typical of AK replicas, with a solid exterior finish. With a front wiring that surrounds it, leaving the tamiya connector at the top, but before the connector we find a small fuse that will extend the life of the electrical set, and that will not take up too much space as it fits perfectly over the hop-up chamber.

PISTON //

The polymer piston has a first metallic tooth in its zip, while the rest are made of polymer. The piston head is also plastic and, although we normally like metal ones better, we must admit that the compression it makes inside the cylinder is flawless and works perfectly fine.

BARREL AND HOP-UP //

The hop chamber is made of metal and the lateral displacement system allows a comfortable and precise adjustment. However, we were surprised to find some sealing material that joined the barrel to the hop, which we removed during the dismantling and which we did not need when reassembling it. An excess of sticky tape on the part of CYMA that did not really convince us.

CYLINDER //

The cylinder is conventional and ventilated to regulate the amount of air that enters the barrel with each shot. However, it does not vary in shorter or longer models, so the same amount of air will push the BB in both cases. After testing them in the open, we did not notice that this significantly influences the firing performance of the models, so we assume that CYMA works in intervals that include both lengths.

SPRING //

It mounts an M120 type spring, which provides an average power of 400 FPS. The spring guide is metallic and has bearings to facilitate the torsion of the spring, a very useful feature at these power rates, while there are no bearings inside the piston head to complete the upgrade.

CONCLUSIONS

Its stable and exterior quality of CYMA’s replica guns is well known by the players, and those who are not yet aware of it will discover so thanks to these models that have such good external finish. Additionally, the design plays a leading role in these two new models, offering interesting variants of the AK dressed up in its most modern and tactical features. Wood gives way to Keymod in this new generation.
