VFC LAR "Light Automatic Rifle"

Realism is not only limited to the outdoors. The operation of this LAR (Light Automatic Rifle) GBBR is similar to the real one, while its powerful recoil and the many quality details that VFC has included when producing it will allow us to have an authentic experience. Both because of the difference it makes with respect to other replicas and how faithful the result is in this iconic piece of history. It doesn’t matter if you are an airsofter, re-enactor, collector or just an avid gamer, if you get to shoot this replica, you will see why we have become so hooked on the experience.

History

Following the success at the end of WWII of the German StG44 that combined the fire rate of a submachine gun with the power of a rifle, the USSR developed its own version, the AK47, during the cold war. And one of the most popular responses that emerged in the Western world was the LAR, of which multiple versions were released in more than 90 countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, India, Argentina, etc.

Multiple names,  one rifle

Although VFC calls it LAR, many of you will know this rifle as the FN FAL. Both names are correct, since LAR (Light Automatic Rifle) is the English name used in the foreign market which is translated from the French FAL (Fusil Atomatique Léger). And it was also given other nicknames such as “The Right Arm of the Free World” due to its popularity in the Western world during the Cold War.

FAL 50.00

This is the basic version of the LAR which gave rise to the other versions. There are three details in which we can recognize this version in VFC’s replica: the pistol grip, the polymer stock with dummy butt plate and the ventilated polymer handguard. Other versions like the 50.63 would have a short barrel and folding stock (for paratroopers), the 50.64 with a folding stock and normal barrel, while the 50.41 and 50.42 are light machine gun versions.

Specs

Materials

The handguard, pistol grip and stock with rubber recoil pad are made of polymer in line with the 50.00 style, which means it weighs less when compared to, for example, the models in which these pieces are made of wood. However, the rest of the replica has multiple steel parts which add together to weigh almost 4 kg and give it that solid feeling when you hold it in your hands.

Steel parts

Muzzle, outer barrel, fuse rings, handguard retaining rings, top cover, carry handle, hold-open latch, magazine latch, trigger, trigger guard, rear sight, shot selector, hinge pin and lock screw, lock lever receiver, dummy bolt, hammer, trigger mechanism, magazine stop plate.

Movies and shows

While it may not sound familiar to you at first, we assure you that you have seen this rifle in numerous movies. For example, do you remember the scene at the beginning of 13 Hours where Rone and Jack's vehicle is stopped by militiamen? Well there you have it! And also in…

Hotel Rwanda (2004)

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016)

Strike Back (2010-Present)

The Unit (2006 – 2009)

Tears of the Sun (2003)

The Suicide Squad (2021)

Ultimate Force (2006)

The Siege of Jadotville (2016)

Tropa de Elite (2007)

Black Panther (2018)

The magazine

The LAR was designed to fire the 7.92×33 mm Kurz intermediate cartridge that Nazi Germany had developed during WWII for the Sturmgewehr 44. And even though they adapted it to the .280 British (7.62x43 mm) for the British, at the request of the US, they abandoned the less powerful intermediate cartridges in favour of the 7.62x51 mm NATO as early as 1953. Thus, the magazine presented by VFC emulates the 20-round magazine (the 30-round magazine was reserved for the LMG version).

This gas magazine features a bolt stop feature for even more realism. We also like that the gas charging valve is inside the body of the replica, therefore meaning it is protected.

One tool  to tweak it all

It is not the One Ring, but almost. VFC includes this unique and strange key with the replica, with which we can regulate both the rear sight, adjust the hop-up and disassemble the transport lever, as well as other parts of the replica. A very effective tool that you should not lose under any circumstances because it is very unique. So be sure to put it in a safe place!

Conclusión

This is the first replica of the LAR in the whole world within the GBBR, which should already be a historical milestone, but this is an understatement once we understand all the history behind this rifle. So now we don't know whether to treat it as a collector's item or a high-end GBBR. And when you shoot it and try the new mechanical system that works like a regular GBBR to offer this recoil feeling, that realistic operation of the bolt, that…that is the point when you realize all you want is to put another magazine in and do it all over again. This replica creates two types of players: those who are said to exaggerate about the virtues of this replica and those who have not
 tried it yet.
