KJ WORKS CZ P-09

If we trace it back, we will discover that the genealogical line of this pistol runs down through the most recent history of both the Czech arms manufacturer, Česká Zbrojovka, and that of KJ Works. Indeed, its catalogue offers replicas of the CZ 75, SP -01, ACCU, Shadow 2, P09 and now, at last, also the P09 OR, a custom version of the "Guardian Angel" and the P09 Urban Grey.

Licences

It should be noted that this model is a replica of a real pistol and that, thanks to ASG’s licenses, we can enjoy spectacular precision in its reproduction and original markings. An added value that will surely be appreciated by target shooters, among whom the real model is popular, and by airsofters who also like this model.

Slide

The OR version of the P-09, unlike the completed mounted on the Urban Grey model, features a lightweight aluminium slide, with a hole on each side and a third on the back, through which you can see the golden external barrel. Although this detail may seem a bit "bling" it is a detail for which the real manufacturer of SAI guns has become highly popular, it was a strategy employed to quickly differentiate their products and, now, it has become common in many other brands as a distinguishing feature on their pistols. Going all black is a thing of the past.

RMR

Another characteristic of the “OR” model is the platform for mounting RMR sights similar to the Trijicon, or other models that maintain the measurements between screws of the popular Trijicon. Though this new element replaces the classic rear sight with a higher one, which is integrated into the platform and aligns with the newly resized front sight, allowing us to use the 3-point aiming system even with the RMR sight mounted.

Trigger guard

The oversized design of the trigger guard allows us to quickly and intuitively access the trigger even when wearing thick gloves. While in the real model the safety can be disassembled to convert it into a decocker (like that of the P226), the airsoft replica, however, has an automatic safety that guarantees the passive safety of the replica gun. Its best aspect is that it is ambidextrous and can be operated classically to unlock and upwards to lock.

Frame

Unlike the slide, the frames of these CZ P-09s are made of polymer, which reduces the overall weight and means we can have fun with colour combinations such as this one with a black slide and frame in Urban Grey. This grey colour is gradually making its way through the most operational units on the scene. What’s more, in both models, the grip has a horizontal pattern on the front edge of the grip and the trigger guard, which combined with the gritty design on the sides (included at the top for the thumb of the supporting hand), provides a secure grip. In addition, on the back of the pistol grip there is a panel that is interchangeable to adapt the size of the grip to the hand of the shooter, although the model we received did not include additional grips.

Compensator

These models have a compensator (also sold separately) which can be attached to the outer barrel using a thread, although it is also secured in other ways to block rotation. Gases are able to escape through grooves in the firearm rather than through the end of the gun, offsetting recoil and vibrations. This is obviously an aesthetic accessory in these replicas which, together with Magwell, helps to give the models a more modern feel.

P-09 Magwell

For these pistols, KJ Works has launched a tactical Magwell (magazine well extension) to reload more quickly (which is sold separately). Thanks to the funnel effect, inserting the new magazine into the pistol frame is a lot more intuitive. Also acts as a hand stopper for a more instinctive grip.

Gas and CO2 magazines

Like most KJ Works designed pistols, their internal parts are equipped to be used with both gas and CO2 magazines. Both magazines are available on the market with a capacity of 24 BBs.

Gas and CO2 consumption

One of the virtues of this pistol is that, thanks to its lightweight metal slide and the RMR base it incorporates, it is much lighter than other models with a metal slide, therefore, it needs less gas to move the set, making magazine consumption more efficient.

Guide

The recovery spring guide is made of metal, and we think the spring itself is sufficiently stiff to be able to offer a quick shot and a powerful kick, especially with CO2, where this gun shows its greatest potential.

Hop-Up

The hop-up, unlike other models that use the Tokyo Marui system, is regulated by a screw on the bottom. This means the entire pistol has to be disassembled in order to adjust it. However, once adjusted, this system will prevent the hop-up from getting misadjusted, which is why it is considered to be more stable. It exerts a uniform pressure by means of a circular ring, providing an exact pressure to the centre of the BBs when exiting through the barrel and resulting in straighter flight, unlike traditional systems, which can be more easily misadjusted, can (not always) apply slightly more pressure to one side of the ball, skewing the flight. All this is very clearly demonstrated and explained by the Taiwanese staff at AST in a video on their YouTube channel.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we think that the P09 is a pistol that you need some time to get used to, since the slide is lower than we normally see in other styles of pistol. It can feel strange when manipulating the slide. Having passed that stage, this is one of the most efficient pistols designed by KJ Works in both, the quality of the materials and its performance, it has original markings and is designed to be used in cold temperatures. If you’re looking for a pistol that is secure, either of these CZ P-09 KJ WORKS models ought to be on your shortlist.
