APS XTP DRAGONFLY WITH NAVY GREY SLIDE

The time has come, you relax your neck and arms and your fingers flex slightly ... your hand drops to your waist, you draw your gun and, as if you were dancing, you have shot all the targets before the music stops.

APS has added the new version of the Dragonfly to its XTP (XTREME TRAINING PISTOL) series of pistols. Eleven years have passed since the ACP was launched in 2012, during which time APS has continued to develop its secondary line. And how can all this experience and knowledge be summed up? Well, it has led to the next-generation XTP series.

What makes it stand out?

 - Fibre optic sight
 - Lightweight slide
 - Navy grey/black dual tone
 - Rear sight compatible with RMR rail
 - Dynamic Slide Release catch
 - Ambidextrous safety
 - Integrated Omni Magwell
 - 20 mm under rail
 - Threaded barrel for silencer
 - New design of mag base cover

Fibre optic sights

The fibre optic sight allows us to align more quickly with the aiming system. Using fibre optics also means that any small fraction of light will help it stand out, making it easier to aim.

Lightweight slide

The lightweight design of the slide has openings in the front which leave the outer barrel visible, giving a slight flavour of Salient Arms models. It has a slide cover with the logo of the model that we can swap between other APS models.  As if this were not enough, the colour of this new version of the slide has been changed and it is now navy grey, which is different to the previous model that was completely silver.

Reinforced interior

The inner barrel measures 6.03 mm and has a standard length. Although, thanks to the internal thread of the outer barrel, we can mount a silencer and use the 190 mm barrel that APS offers.

Competition trigger

It has a straight trigger, a feature of models such as the SAI. This results in less travel and will help us to be able to fire continually or perform a much faster double tap—something which will be very useful if we play AIPSC or CQB at full speed.

Modified  safety

When we first picked up the pistol, we thought the position that the APS people had placed the ambidextrous safety in was a bit weird, but once you get used to it, it is very easy and intuitive to be able to lock it on or off with the support hand while shouldering the pistol itself...

Characteristics

 - Manufacturer: APS
 - Model: Dragonfly
 - Weight: 900 g
 - Inner barrel length: 136 mm
 - Inner barrel diameter: 6.03 mm
 - Power source: Gas
 - Magazine capacity: 23 BBs
 - Velocity: 285 FPS with 0.20g BBs at 19ºC

Experience

During testing, it reminded us of its predecessor a great deal: the ACP. We were hitting targets at 30 meters so accurately that we felt we could move further back to the 40-meter mark... and we still hit them as easily.

So we went all-in, and placed it all the way back. But, of course, at a distance of 60 meters we cannot expect a pistol to deliver what many AEGs struggle to achieve. However, it is one of the best 0.20 pistols we have ever tried.

Conclusions

A truly impressive gun. This new Dragonfly model included in the XTP handgun series by APS is undoubtedly a model worth considering, both by AIPSC and CQB players, thanks to the great performance it offers.
