EXPERIENCE IS THE SUM OF ALL YOUR MISTAKES, AND AS VETERANS WE HAVE MADE MANY. HOWEVER, NOT EVERYONE LEARNS FROM THEM, NEITHER DRAWS THE SAME CONCLUSIONS. BUT THERE ARE ALWAYS SOME PRINCIPLES THAT MAKE US ACHIEVE BETTER RESULTS IN OUR GAMES AND WHICH ALL VETERANS LIKE TO SHARE. THIS IS A LIST WHICH MANY CAN USE TO BEGIN WITH AND WHERE SOME MAY FIND SOMETHING NEW TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT. WE ONLY HOPE THAT THIS WILL MAKE YOU BETTER PLAYERS SO THAT THE NEXT GAME YOU PLAY WILL BE EVEN MORE INTERESTING.
1. ENSURE YOUR MOVE
Before moving forward, always look for cover and head that way, so if you are detected they can never catch you in the open. Similarly, as you move you should keep in mind fall back areas where you can take cover if you need to retreat upon enemy contact.
2. MOVE AMONG THE SHADOWS
Take a close look at the route you plan to take, stay in the shade whenever you can and try to make sure that at least one of your flanks is always covered. Try to avoid the most obvious routes as much as possible, such as those roads where even rookies may be hiding. To take the enemy by surprise you will have to walk more than normal and across more diffcult areas, but this is the best way to out ank them and catch them off guard.
3. DO NOT JEOPARDISE YOUR POSITIONS
Speaking loudly, talking too much, treading noisily because you are not watching your step, wasting time with eliminated players you find on the way, walking away from cover... all can help your opponent see you before you see him. Play quietly, stay focused on the game and don’t do anything that is not "ninja-style" enough. This is the best way to become a hunter.
4. EVERYTHING IN YOUR FAVOUR
In airsoft there are many factors that influence our shots. Keep an eye on the direction of the sun and leave it behind you when attacking so that the enemy will take longer to see you come. Shooting downwind will give us a few extra meters while our enemies, firing against the wind, will lose such distance, and this may prove key. Similarly, seeking the highest areas to attack will also provide us with some extra distance due to the slope. Cheating? Not really, just experience.
5. KEEP CHANGING YOUR POSITION
Once the fight starts, the most common mistake is to go in and out of the same cover, making it easier for the enemy to locate you and take you out. Keep moving, go to a different window, tree, change positions... if you keep moving the enemy will have to find you before firing and you can make the most of such advantage, as chances are that he will be hiding behind the same place you saw him in the first time.
+1. FIRE AT WILL
The biggest mistake an airsofter can make is to be taken out for not shooting enough. Unless the game limits our ammunition in an extraordinary way, we should always shoot as much as we can, because the more balls we fire, the more our chances of failure are reduced. It will always be better to run out of balls that to go back to respawn with full clips.
All the above has worked for us, we learned many of these lessons the hard way by the hand of those who were veterans when we started. Now that we have taken their place, it is our duty to pass them on, and it is up to you to decide what to do with the ones that will follow.
