On 24 December, 1994, the GIA terrorist group hijacked the Air France flight AF8969 on its way to Paris. The mission was to blow up the Airbus A300B over the Eiffel Tower. The French authorities could land the plane in Marseille in order to refuel.

The G.I.G.N, the elite counter-terror unit managed what became one of the most famous operation to date, their operators killed the four hijackers with zero casualties among the passengers.
