Color me shocked. A company has been able to combine fatherhood, tactical nylon, and lifestyle marketing. TIER1-D (their stylization, not a typo) is a company started by an avid outdoor enthusiast “… dedicated to bringing the best in gear and apparel to the modern dad.”

And brought the gear they have.

After the birth of his daughter, (CEO Jack Osbourne) quickly realized that not only were most commercially available diaper bags covered in flowery prints, they were also being made from low quality, flimsy materials. This is when the idea of Tier1-Dad was born; a line of high quality, functional diaper and lifestyle bags for dads. He crafted the line using his own knowledge of military gear and the outdoors. He consulted with numerous members of the armed forces and avid outdoorsmen to create the most durable, highly functional bags available.

For those of you not parents, Mr. Osbourne is 100% correct. The “high end” diaper bag my wife and I received was exactly that, flowery prints out of flimsy materials. Its ripped already and that’s only from a baby EDC load. I’m convinced it will not survive a toddler.

To counter this, TIER1-D has released a small, but growing variety of bags using design and construction methods found in tactical nylon. Seeing how tactical nylon is likely the most abused modular fabric in the world (perhaps only behind Carhartt), the bags will likely take a beating and then some.

While the bags will certainly appeal to the “modern dad” (at least they do to me), it may be a tough fight with your significant other. In my case, the wife likes the flowery print. TIER1-D currently offers onlyCoyote and Black.
